With the California Special, Moto Guzzi adds another, exciting variation to the model which has become its legendary flagship.
While retaining the same mechanical and structural qualities as the recent California EV, its looks, riding position and general approach to the whole machine are new: the riding position is more laid back thanks to the wider handlebars and slightly forward shifted footpegs, component modifications and lower seat.
In a nutshell, a fortunate interpretation of the "American Style" concept that Moto Guzzi offers is most celebrated "Eurocustom".

INNOVATIONS

The innovations are clear right from its new, larger dimensions: maximum length 2380 mm, maximum width 945 mm and seat height 760 mm.
But the main innovations concern the superstructure, more specifically:
a broader more enveloping rear mudguard with its "eagle's beak" shape and chromed profile is given a particularly curvilinear form , followed through in the form of the side panels
new design license plate holder and rear lights
larger headlight and bombè side panels with chrome trim
driver's seat separate from the pillion
wider handlebars, forward set re-dimensioned footpegs, and new design brake and gear levers.
Redesigned, rounder rocker covers.

ENGINE

The most recent, powerful evolution of the classic 90° transverse air-cooled V-twin with two pushrod and rocker driven overhead valves per cylinder, as seen on the California EV, with a new electronic ignition control unit.
This engine is capable of delivering surprising torque and power levels, thanks to the new design, stronger con-rods and Multipoint phased sequential electronic ignition, already featured on the California EV.
The California Special is thus capable of optimal cruising speeds with minimum mechanical strain and remarkably low fuel consumption.
No other motorcycle in this category can make similar claims.

TRANSMISSION

Primary transmission by 17/21 ratio helical gears. Final drive is by twin universal joint cardan shaft with 8/33 ratio.
Five speed gearbox and fry double disc mechanically operated clutch.

CYCLE PARTS

Traditional high strength tubular steel frame with duplex detachable cradle which, along with the suspension forms the solid foundation of the California's proverbial road holding capacity. Marzocchi front forks with independent compression and rebound adjustable 45 mm Ø tubes. To the rear, the California Special has the classic swinging arm with a pair of Sachs-Boge rebound and pre-load adjustable shock absorbers.
BBS superlight steel spoked rims ( front 2.50 x 18"; rear 3,50 x 17") with new patented profile for fitting tubeless tyres (front 110/90 VB 18 ; rear 140/80 VB 17).

BRAKING SYSTEM

To the front, twin Brembo ORO series stainless steel floating 32° mm Ø discs with 4 differentiated piston calipers, to the rear a single Ø 282 mm stainless steel fixed disc with parallel 2 piston calipers
But above all what distinguishes the California Special braking system is its proportional braking system with a delay valve which acts simultaneously on both front and rear discs. The evolution Moto Guzzi's integral braking system, this is a system no other motorcycle in this category can boast, which give significant advantages in terms of stability , safety and ease of mind.

PERFORMANCE

The most recent modifications to the mechanics reflect in the following performance specifications:
* maximum power 54 kW at 6400 rpm (CE Standards)
* maximum torque 94 Nm at 5000 rpm (CE Standards)
* top speed 200 km/h (CE Standards)
* fuel consumption 5/100 km (CUNA Standards)

RELIABILITY

Moto Guzzi's mechanical tradition, above all with regard to the engine and transmission, boats a reliability nothing short of legendary.
The 3 year guarantee Moto Guzzi offers its followers attests to the "quality development" program characterising this first phase of Moto Guzzi's re-launch.
This guarantee is also backed by the Moto Guzzi Assistance service which provides roadside assistance of any kind of breakdown, anywhere in Europe.

COLOUR RANGE

The California Special is available in four different colour schemes: two single colour and two two-tone solutions.
"Metallic Black"; "Metallic Pearl White"; "Metallic Brown / Metallic Gold";"Metallic Blue / Metallic Silver".
